Overview

This toolkit is carefully designed to provide a coaching-based framework for improving initial learning designs. Use this deck to ensure the session you are designing is the best it can be through a series of coaching questions and helpful guidance. The deck is A7 size.

A thirty-five card deck split into three themes; Align & Refine, Engage & Involve, and Inclusive Design. Each theme contains nine coaching question cards with guidance on the back. Each question is a prompt to help you check your initial designs and challenge yourself to develop them further.

Align & Refine

This theme helps you align the session with the desired learning outcomes, and to iterate your design into a highly impactful session.

Engage & Involve

This theme helps ensure the session draws and maintains engagement, and that participants are involved at every stage.

Inclusive Design

This theme uses Universal Design principles to help you consider a range of inclusivity adjustments.

Like all our products, this deck also shines as part of a collaborative design process in workshops and design sprints.

"Sometimes it's hard to know where to start with planning learning and the Learning Design Deck from Stormy Sky invites you to really focus on your objectives and outcomes for a session in a clear and systematic way. I have used it as an individual and in group sessions to design exciting and engaging teaching and staff training activities. The pack is reusable and would be my starting point for all learning design from now on!"

I've recently started using the Learning Design Deck to (individually) prep my lessons. Here's what I love about it:

  • The cards allow me to match learning outcomes and activities, making sure all the outcomes are taught through active learning

  • the cards allow me to change the order of activities more easily than when planning on screen or on paper,

  • the 'pre-populated' cards are a great reminder to use session design and activities that are not in my usual repertoire. For example, Card 8 helped me build differentiation into a lesson.
